Bianca and I had a great lunch today at Lidia's in KC. The Brunch was of the hook and the service was first class. We parked at union station (mistake) and walked over the tracks to the restaurant. The address is 101 West 22nd Street Kansas City, MO 64108 with plenty of free parking. It is located on the east end of small center with several restaurants. I recommend a reservation - Tel: 816.221.3722.
When you are seated they start you off with Bakery Selections of breads from our in-house bakery accompanied by three flavored butters, Apricot Jam Butter, Strawberry Jam Butter, and Crunchy Sugar Butter.
Now its time to go to the Antipasti Table for a variety of traditional Italian salads, fresh fruit, cured meats and other seasonal items at the antipasti table. Hey before you go order your entrée'.
Bianca had Frico* Montasio Cheese Crisp filled with Potatoes, Bacon and Soft-Cooked Egg.
The décor was elegant and the entire restaurant was spotless. This runs like a fine Swiss watch. The staff is friendly and you can tell they enjoy working there. The General manager checked in on us and I got to grill him on the Bastianich family and what it was like to work for them. He reports directly to Lidia and has meant Joe Bastianich too. He is even good for a photo ops if you ask nice.
I could not resist purchasing and autographed copy of one of Lydia's many writings. I got Lydia's Family table a soup to nuts book of how she got started and where she is today. So Bianca, the bus boy, waitress, General Manager and myself all autographed it to, why not!
Well I now have some home work and looking forward to reading this book. All in al this was a great experience and want to go back. The waitress made out great because the go tipped in the book purchase that was in the tab. This got five stars and I shall return.
As a side note some really fine memories came back from a luncheon I was party to at a neighboring restaurant. We celebrated a birthday of special person and I was in heaven spending time with these very special people. I miss them so much.
Great German food. A great neighbor for Lydia.
